Frankincense gum tears refer to the resinous sap that oozes out from the Boswellia tree, particularly species like Boswellia sacra, Boswellia serrata, and Boswellia carterii (this is the species that ours comes from). The name "tears" comes from the droplet-like shape of the resin as it solidifies.

Frankincense gum tears typically appear as translucent, golden-brown to amber-colored droplets. The resin hardens into irregularly shaped pieces, resembling tears or small pebbles.

Frankincense is sourced from the resin ducts of the Boswellia tree. The trees are native to regions in the Middle East, including Oman, Yemen, and parts of Africa and India. The gum tears are obtained by making incisions in the bark of the tree, allowing the sap to ooze out and harden. The frankincense gum that we stock is sourced from Egypt.

Uses:

-The primary traditional use of frankincense is as incense in religious and spiritual ceremonies. Burning the hardened tears releases fragrant smoke, symbolizing purification and spiritual elevation.

-Burning frankincense tears as incense can create a calming and meditative atmosphere. The aroma is often associated with relaxation and stress relief.

-The scent of frankincense is thought to have insect-repelling properties. Placing small amounts of crushed tears in specific areas may help deter insects.

-Frankincense gum tears can be used in crafts or as decorative elements. They can be incorporated into potpourri, scented sachets, or resin jewelry for aesthetic purposes.
